Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, this “very dark ale” is a great sipper, very complex & delicious. Deleware-based Dogfish Head’s World Wide Stout offers a nice, smooth dark coffee pour to near black with a two finger beige head that the bubbly carbonation soon lessens to a thin one indeed, & little clinging lace. The aroma of this stout is complex & full of competing scents that consist of coffee & chocolate as expected, but also banana, clove, clementine, cherry & raisin.
The sipping brings a medium to healthy bodied, but a bit harsh taste with strong anise-port qualities, that subdues the aromas. A bit musty to the nose and definitely a nice slow sipping imperial porter that is pleasing to the palate. And without question the 18% ABV was indeed there to the sensation.
