Maybe it won’t win any IPA prizes or extreme beerfests, but Massachusetts based-OPA-OPA Steakhuse & Brewry’s IPA is one damned good IPA in the Anglo-New Anglo tradition, not so much the Wrong Coast style (which I like as well). The quality in question is malt. This is a maltier than typical IPA offering. Also, the water quality seems excellent, which adds to this clean & refreshing ale.
A clean golden pour leads to a golden brown brilliance with 1/2 finger beige-white head & some, not much lacing thereafter. The aroma is definitely spot-on IPA with floral hops, but also nutty malt & grapefruit. The flavor leans into the citric lemon with biting pine hops, but not in an overwhelming way, as rich toasty malts a la a good Octoberfest round this guy out. Crisp & light to medium bodied with good carbonation, slight oil but clean & bright. Not the best but damned good!
