When EZ Angler came across images of Meghan Jo posing with some good size lunkers we had to learn more about this attractive angling lady. A true, blue Midwesterner, Meghan Jo has been hitting ponds and lakes since she was a little girl and when the opportunity presents itself she just can’t help but to wet a line. Meghan Jo is a science teacher by day and an active mentor to urban youth. Her time is also spent enjoy and playing music and taking in some good literature. But this down home spirit loves nothing more than throwing on some cowboy boots, riding horses, using her bow and jetting down dirt and mud roads on a four wheeler. Oh yeah, did we mention she loves to fish! New to modeling, Meghan Jo shared with EZ Angler some information about herself and many of her beautiful images that captures the true soul of this Midwestern beauty.
Where do you hail from originally and where is home now?
I was born and raised in a small town about 30 miles outside of Chicago. Growing up in a town like mine, really gave me a lot of appreciation for what it is like to always know your neighbor and be around hard working, family oriented people. I was raised in a close loving family who instilled in me a strong sense of morals and values and I hold onto the traditions I grew up with. As a result, I am a true blue Midwest girl and still reside in a suburb outside of Chicago.
When and how were you introduced to fishing and what is it about the activity that you like?
My mom first introduced me to fishing when I was a little girl. She used to take my sister and I to a small lake in Wilmington, IL. Using my equipment of choice, my red fishing pole and my Mickey Mouse bobber, I began my love affair with the water. We always fished with hot dogs and to this day that is still my bait of choice for catching some of my best Bass. What I love about fishing is the excitement of feeling that tug on your line, setting your hook, and reeling in what you hope to be your best catch yet.
What is your favorite type of bait/lure when fishing?
You may not believe this, but in the areas I fish, some of most prized catches are pulled in off a hot dog. When fishing with lures, my lure of choice is the Rapala Husky Jerk Bait, perch colored.
Do you have a favorite rod?
Absolutely, my pink and rod and reel!
What is your best fishing story?
My favorite catches are those really big bass…Those 18 inch, 4 to 5 pounders. But, I have caught my fair amount of turtles as well.
What five words best describe you?
Country, easy going, kindhearted, happy, quirky
When and how did you get involved in modeling and where do you hope it will take you?
I actually just fell into modeling, someone noticed a picture of mine, contacted me, did a shoot with me, and before I knew it I was being contacted by other companies who wanted to use me as the face of their marketing campaigns. I really enjoy modeling, I am just taking it a day at a time and seeing where it will lead! My passion is creating beautiful and unique images.
You are also a chemistry and physics teacher, do you apply any of the science to your fishing technique?
Throughout my coursework in college and grad school, I learned a lot about nature and the environment; that certainly helps me to understand freshwater ecosystems and fishing in general. The scientist in me drives me to be a bit hyper analytical about my fishing approach, constantly trying a combination of different times, weather patterns, spots, and of course lures. However, it is mostly because I am a chemistry and physics teacher, in an urban setting, that I look forward to relaxing and fishing on the weekends!
What is it that you would like people to know about you?
I’m just a country girl who loves to fish, ride horses, ride a four wheeler down country roads, shoot my bow, and hit my targets. I have so many passions in life, including traveling, reading, practicing on my guitar, writing, and of course my cowgirl boots! I have a great love of country music, and I bet that as you read this, I’m probably on my way to listen to live music at my favorite local spot. With that all said, though, the greatest fulfillment I find in life is working with the inner city youth that I teach. I am also an active mentor in big brothers big sisters and thus, realize the importance of always giving back.
