To begin, swim jigs are a great way to target big Bass year round. You can swim them high or on the bottom. You can burn them in or retrieve them slow. Swim jigs can be run through the slop, around structure or in open water. No matter where you toss these awesome baits consistently, produce quality fish. There are all sorts of swim jigs available on the market today from just about every company that makes jigs.I have used just about every one you can buy in the stores and none have produced better than Custom Bait Co.’s swim jig.
Custom Baits swim jig has far been one of the deadliest things in my arsenal. There have been days where this is the only bait I will toss in the water. They have a great wobbling action as they cut through the water and can definitely take a beating. The skirts are durable, long lasting and have a great-added action as they fall or are retrieved with speed. The unique methods in which these are painted allow these jigs to take the beating and not look like they did. I have banged these on rocks, logs and other structure and they still look like they did I took them out of the package. Another great benefit of these is they do not tend to get hung up too badly when you swim them through the slop, grass or weed beds.
My personal favorite is the FL Shiner Swim jig although, I have done well on the Bluegill and Perch colors too. Choosing your color will depend on the type of water you are fishing. I like to add plastic swim bait as a trailer, but using a craw or other trailer bait will work too. There are over 30 skirt colors so there are plenty of options to choose from based on your target species and/or body of water. In addition, there are always new colors that are being added. Even better, if you do not see a color combination you would like, you can reach out to them, and they can do a custom jig for you.
They have worked well in both deep and shallow water. With a great action as they fall into the deep, I have had many hits just on the fall. I have two ways that I utilize these jigs. I tend to cast it out and burn it in. Speed is essential and a killer. There’s nothing better than watching the wake of a bass chasing your swim jig. Once hooked, the hooks used on these swim jigs are easy to remove too. The other method I use is a stop and go retrieve. I will do this is deeper water to keep it down in the strike zone longer. When I stop, I will give it a little twitch for the extra action. I have found that these work the best when thrown just past the edge of weeds and grass lines and close to other structures and then having the bait swim by the structure.
Overall, these great quality jigs are available at a very reasonable price. Unlike some of the bigger companies out there, these are made to order meaning they are not made in bulk and just stored waiting to be sold. Custom Bait Co custom makes every jig to order and the turnaround time is pretty quick too! Go to www.custombaitco.com and get yours today!
