babe, bass, fishing, florida

Some things are meant to be and for Delayne Nicole fishing is just simply part of who she is and her life. Delayne has been wetting a line since the age of three when she was first introduced to the activity by her father. Through the years she has continued honing her fishing skills and through her pictures and words it clear this EZ angling Floridian knows her way around a tackle box and can haul in some major trophy size catches. EZ Angler looks forward to seeing and hearing more from Delayne in the future.

Do you have a specific aspiration or goal in mind for your fishing or involvement in fishing ?

I potentially would love to be sponsored or a brand rep. for companies, maybe even compete competitively. I just really enjoy being out on the water fishing and there are a few brands that I consistently use and if I can help spread the name of their company and they in turn can help me, it’s a win-win for everyone.

Where do you call home?

I was born and raised in Miami and grew up fishing there, but a few years ago I relocated to Ft. Lauderdale and I absolutely love it here and plan to stay for as long as I can.

You have your choice of fresh and saltwater fishing. What is your preference and how do the two differ for you?

That’s a difficult question to answer. I was raised saltwater fishing, but have fallen in love with freshwater fishing over the years. I still fish saltwater from time to time, but I feel freshwater fishing really requires you to know what you’re doing. You have to know where the fish are and what they’re hungry for in order to catch those big monsters we’re all after.

How do you like spending time beyond fishing?

Other than fishing any opportunity I can possibly get in between working 40 hours a week, I enjoy hunting, skeet and range shooting, going to sporting events, boating with friends and hanging out at the beach.

When and how were you introduced to fishing and what is it about the activity you enjoy?

I want to say I was about 3-years-old when I was able to start holding a fishing pole and fishing with my dad while out on the boat. I have many memories growing up with my dad and us getting to spend time together fishing and competing for who could catch the most fish (I always won!).  I guess you could say I just fell in love with it at a young age and have never stopped since then. It’s always been something fun and enjoyable for me to do.

Is there specific technique you enjoy over others when freshwater fishing?

Definitely flipping. Being able to flip gives me a great advantage over other bass fishers to be able to catch such big fish.  It’s not just about the lure that you use, but the technique used as well that helps you overall.

What is your favorite species of fish to catch?

I would have to say largemouth and peacock bass.

What is your favorite type of bait/lure when fishing freshwater?

I enjoy flipping jigs and creatures into vegetation. Particularly the Gambler Lures BB Cricket and WhyNots.

Do you have a favorite rod?

My favorite rod is my Powell Endurance 795. It’s meant for umbrella rigs, but I’ve been using it as a flipping stick and it works great.

What is your best fishing story?

My best fishing story would have to be when I went bass fishing for the first time ever. I was in college when my boyfriend at the time talked me into getting up at the crack of dawn to go fishing with him. We went out in this little john boat to this lake by a golf course up in Tallahassee to fish that morning. We had barely gotten settled in and I was already casting and reeling in fish after fish when my boyfriend couldn’t believe this was happening.

This gave me the impression that bass fishing was so easy, I didn’t understand my boyfriend’s fuss all the time when he complained he couldn’t catch anything that day. I guess you could say it was beginners luck and the next time we went it wasn’t so easy. Over the years, I’ve learned there is much more to bass fishing than just casting your lure into the water and reeling a fish right back in, but never the less I still enjoy every moment of it.

What five words best describe you?

Adventurous, friendly, caring, giving, and loyal.

What else would like people to know about you?

I am a proud Florida State Alumni and can’t wait for our football season to start back up this year. I also have a chihuahua named Ladybug who is my little sidekick and who I treat like my child.
